Law 29/2015 of July 30 2015 on international cooperation in civil and mercantile matters (Ley 29/2015 de 30 de julio, de cooperación jurídica internacional en materia civil).
Up until now, there has not existed any domestic legislation concerning international cooperation in civil and mercantile matters in Spain. Reciprocity was required as long as international conventions would not apply. With law 29/2015 the need of previous reciprocity for cooperation to exist disappears. However, cooperation may be denied if there is a lack of reciprocity. Furthermore, cooperation has to be denied if there is a legal prohibition to cooperate. Nowadays the application of Spanish law is allowed if foreign law cannot be proven.
Among others, an important novelty is the possibility of a direct delivery to the defendant, the international lis pendens and the new role of the exequatur.
